| First elected to Congress in 1998, U.S. Representative Thomas M. Reynolds of Clarence has been a leader and a fighter for Western New York. His experiences as a father, small business owner and community leader have helped shape his views as he has served the people of the 26th district.
Born September 3, 1950, Tom was first elected to represent his neighbors as a member of the Concord Town Board. He was subsequently elected to the Erie County Legislature, then as a member of the New York Assembly. In the Assembly, he rose to the post of Republican Leader in 1995. Reynolds now serves as a member of the House Republican leadership, which has brought Western New York clout in the federal government.
In addition to being a member of House leadership, Reynolds serves on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee. Reynolds is the only Republican from New York on the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees economic policy, trade, Social Security, welfare, and health care policy.
Tom's rise to the top of House leadership has been noted by The Buffalo News as a position of promise for New York state and more important, Western New York. In fact the paper noted with "a love of legislating and an old-fashioned backslapping style, Reynolds has built a House career that at this point looks charmed- and limitless." Furthermore, the Buffalo News writes the Congressman "wields influence on virtually every major state issue."
Tom Reynolds continues to help create the atmosphere and environment to inspire entrepreneurship, innovation and investment that will help create growth, opportunity and jobs in Western New York. Tom understands for New York to be competitive in a global economy, taxes must be lower, regulations cut and litigation reduced. He has fought at the federal level to ensure these principles are enforced for Western New York's working families and small businesses.
From his days as a member of the Concord Town Board to a member of the House, Tom has always made constituent casework his top priority. He has always maintained that no problem is too big, and no problem is too small, and prides himself on helping people with their problems, and making a real difference in people's lives.
And as a member of the House, Tom also has put emphasis on securing job-creating federal investments for Western New York, which have totaled more $500 million since being elected to Congress.
Those resources are working to create jobs, improve education, strengthening healthcare and bolster our area. From constituent casework making a difference to legislative achievements having an impact on the lives of local residents to fighting for our community's fair share of federal dollars, Congressman Reynolds is making a difference for Western New York's families and small businesses.
This includes Reynolds leadership and efforts on behalf of the military men and women and their families serving at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. Last year, the BRAC Commission tried closing the base, but Reynolds fought the recommendation, and was widely credited for his success and hard work, overturning the recommendation and keeping the base open. That saved more than 3,000 local jobs, and kept Western New York secure for years to come.
A licensed real estate and insurance broker, Tom was educated at Springville-Griffith Institute and Kent State University. Tom achieved the rank of sergeant in the New York Air National Guard, which he served in from 1970-1976, and is a member of the American Legion.
Tom and his wife, Donna, are the parents of four children. They reside in Clarence. |
